Schuberg and Hamm tie within top 10; Men's Golf wrap up the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate

BOSSIER City, La. – The University of Dallas men's golf team earned 3rd place out of the five NCAA Division III programs that competed in the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate hosted by Centenary College at The Golf Club at StoneBridge.

On Tuesday, the Crusaders clipped two strokes from the first round and posted a 319 on the day. Their overall team score was a 640. Seven teams competed altogether, with Tyler Junior College (567) and Jacksonville College (619) taking two of the top three team positions. McMurry University compiled a 609 and was in between those two sqauds to notch the lowest score from NCAA DIII schools. Howard Payne University posted a 625 to finish in front of UD. Fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) foe Centenary shot a 656, and Louisiana College rounded out the standings with a 728.

Individually Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) recovered to shoot a team-best 74 in the final round  to secure a 153 overall and tie 9th. Last week's SCAC Golfer of the Week maintained his streak of being among the top finisher on the squad through seven tournaments counting all the ones from fall.

Two other players matched Schuberg, with one of them being his teammate Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.). Hamm removed one extra stroke on the second day to score a 76. Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) had shot a team-low 76 Monday, but would tie 15th after hitting an 80 and compiling a 156 overall. Wade did etch the team's lone Eagle and was one-of-five golfers to achieve the feat on Tuesday.

A quartet of players from Tyler JC nabbed the top four finishes in the individual standings. Marco Maldonado did impress with a 68 and 65 to combine for 11 strokes under (133) par. Of the NCAA affiliated athletes, Lane Roye (147) was the lowest score followed by teammate Sam Sweeney with a 151). UD's duo of top finishers, Schuberg and Hamm, would then be tied for 3rd based on just considering NCAA DIII competitors.
