Men's Golf Breaks Pair of Records; Claim 2nd at Louisiana College Fall Invite

WOODWORTH, La. – The University of Dallas men's golf team improved in round two shooting a 309, which was 11 strokes better than Monday's opener and claimed second place (629) at the Louisiana College Fall Invite. The competition was hosted at Alexandria Country Club, and the host team Louisiana College earned first with a team score of 614. The Wildcats shot 299 in the second day. Centenary College of Louisiana tallied a 637 to take third.

Dallas broke two records on Tuesday as a team, breaking the lowest single-round score and lowest two-round score. The previous mark for an 18-hole round was 312 at the Utica College Spring Invitational on April 25, 2009. The team score of 629 shattered the previous 653-clip set at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship in Cazenovia, New York, on April 23-24, 2009.

All five individuals for the Crusaders hit career-low scores and three of the five set new career-lows in a single round.

Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) flipped their day one scores to tie the leaderboard for UD with 152's apiece. Schuberg's 74 on day two broke a personal best hit at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament in 2015 by one. The top two tandem for the Crusaders shared third place and Schuberg set a career-low score for a two-day competition.

Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) was another player participating in his first collegiate tournament and displayed a six-stroke improvement on the second day with a 77. That was the second lowest score of the round. Oliver Rivers (Horsham West Sussex, England) and Matthew Nickel (Wichita, Kan.) both improved by five and six strokes, respectively, to post an 80 and 82 in the frame. Rivers was a career-low for a single round and Nickel matched his best 18-hole with his performance in the second round of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Intercollegiate on September 23, 2014.

Individual Standings

QUOTABLES

"It was great to get the season off to a good start, and I was really encouraged by what I saw. I think more than anything we learned that we can compete. Even though no one really had their best stuff this week, we were still able to get in the mix a bit and feel that tournament pressure. I am excited to see what happens when everyone starts clicking into high gear, to really see just how good that we are." – Head Coach Garrett Smith on his team's overall finish

"Good teams take advantage of the extra time on the course and improve each day. Tommy played great today. His ball striking flashes signs of brilliance every time he is out there. He was able to really rely on that today, when the putts weren't falling to still shoot a good score. Jake fought the greens all week, and I believe that he would admit to not being comfortable on them for the entire tournament. Despite that, he was able to really grind out a good score today and really help the team. Matt was also able to improve today, lowering his day 2 score by 6 shots. He hit a lot of great shots today, and with continued work I know he will keep improving each day.  Despite, Erik and Ollie not posting their best scores they both really fought." – Coach Smith on each individual's second day results
