Men's Golf fall schedule Announced

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team finalized the dates to the fall 2016 portion of its schedule. Some details on location are still being completed, and can be found on the UD Men's Golf Schedule. The Crusaders have five tournaments slated this season, with the spring schedule being released later this year. Dallas is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), which hosts its championship in April.

Entering his first full season at the helm of the Dallas men's golf program is head coach Garrett Smith. Hired March 1, Smith coached two tournaments with the Crusaders last spring. A former student-athlete of NCAA Division II Cameron University, Smith boasts optimism for this exciting new campaign.

"I am incredibly excited to get to begin my first full season with these guys," Coach Smith exclaimed. "We will be a much improved group from last year, and know that we are going to put in the work to be able to turn some heads."

Dallas opens the fall season at Alexandria Country Club in Alexandrai, Louisiana, hosted by Louisiana College on September 19-20. Nearly two weeks roll off the calendar before UD hosts its annual duel with Hendrix College on October 1-2. The pair of dates will be separate tournaments and the site of play is still being determined. A week later, the Crusaders are at Harker Heights, Texas, for a two-day competition hosted by University of Mary-Hardin Baylor on Oct. 10-11. The course will be at StoneTree Golf Club.

"We open up in Louisiana at Louisiana College's event in Alexandria and the tournament will be played at Alexandria Country Club," Smith stated. "The team will really be looking forward to kicking off the season strong and establishing that we are a much different team than last year." Smith continued, "Our next event will be our home and home matches with Hendrix College. While we don't have the venue finalized completely, we look forward to competing with a good Hendrix team. The next event will be in Harker Heights, Texas, hosted by University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. This tournament always has a strong field, and we will be looking to really see where we stand against a number of conference teams."

The Crusaders wrap up the fall portion back in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with a tournament at the Tribute Golf Club in the Colony, Texas. Texas A&M Commerce will host the event that is scheduled to begin on Oct. 31.

"There will be many NCAA Division II teams in attendance, and it will be great to see how we stack up against the talent there," Smith explained. "I know we have the talent to compete at that division and look forward to seeing what the guys are made of."

"Overall it is going to be a very exciting fall season for the University of Dallas men's golf team," Smith concluded. "I look forward to seeing the culture change and a winning attitude come to fruition here within the program."
