IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas announced this afternoon that Garrett Smith has accepted the position as the new men's and women's golf head coach. He becomes the ninth head coach of the men's golf program and replaces Brent Perkins, who resigned in February. Additionally, Smith expects to guide the women's golf program which expects to be a sponsored NCAA team in the 2016-17 season.

Smith resides locally in Grand Prairie, Texas. Since 2015, Smith has served at The Clubs of Prestonwood as an Assistant Golf Professional. His responsibilities included: member relations, tournament organization and facilitation, supervise, schedule and manage the Outside Services Team. He also managed inventory, displays and presentations, facilitated pro shop sales, and provided golf lessons for club members.

From 2012-15, Smith worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Thorntree Country Club in Desoto, Texas. He assisted the daily operations and management of a country club golf course, and also oversaw similar duties he does at The Clubs of Prestonwood. While at Thorntree, Smith did implement the Get Golf Ready Program, which focused on beginner golfers. The result increased ladies golf membership and strengthened the junior golf program.

Smith did earn his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at Cameron University. While at Cameron, Smith played and lettered four years in golf. He was a member of the Lone Star Conference Championship Team, and a two-time participant in the Division II National Championships.

Dallas will open the spring portion of its season on March 5-6 at Hendrix College for a dual match.
