Crusaders Go Toe-to-Toe With Defending Champs in Tight Loss to Schreiner

December 15, 2023

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference match against Schreiner University 83-76 on Friday, falling to 3-7 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.

The Crusaders got off on the right foot, going five of their first seven field goals to take an early 10-point lead after three and a half minutes.  The Mountaineers struggled out of the gate, missing seven straight field goal attempts to start the game.

It didn't take long for Schreiner to get back into the game, but Dallas held onto their lead for much of the first half.  After battling back and forth for a solid 10 minutes, the Crusaders went 3-of-13 from the field in the final six and half minutes of the period, allowing the Mountaineers to head into the break with a modest five-point lead.

The second half was evenly fought as well.  The Mountaineers led by double-digits on two occasions, but the Crusaders made it  a one possession game three times throughout the period, pulling as close as two points off the lead.  But the reigning SCAC champs did just enough and held on for the win.

Marcus Juarez (pictured) led the team with 19 points, going 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc.  Jack Boyle and Johny Olmsted each notched 17 points on the night, with Boyle adding 13 rebounds to secure another double-double.  Olmsted was one board away from a double-double, snagging nine rebounds.
