Boyle Drops 30, Men's Basketball Beaten by Southwestern at the Buzzer

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference match with Southwestern University 77-76 on Saturday.  They fall to 7-11 overall on the year and 1-8 in conference play.

Both teams started off ice cold, with the Pirates making just two of their first seven shots and Dallas oh for their first seven.  Southwestern managed to find some form as the period wore on, but Dallas were decidedly not at their best in terms of finishing; they would end the first half 9-of-30 from the field as a team.

The Crusaders were excellent from the free throw line, however, going 13-of-15.  They were able to keep themselves within striking distance as a result, never trailing by more than nine points, and strike they did in the second half.

Dallas went 13-of-20 (65%) from the field in the second half and 2-of-4 from deep.  They never went on a massive scoring run, but slowly and steadily chipped away at the lead.  They outscored the Pirates 18-7 over an eight minute span to come back and take a 64-63 lead with five and half left to play.

The final five minutes were a tense, back and forth battle that saw the lead change hands five times.  Dallas looked like they just might have done as Jack Boyle put them on top 76-74 with two seconds left on the clock, bringing his total for the night to 30 points.  But the Pirates called a timeout and managed to answer right back, taking the 77-76 lead and the win on a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Jack Boyle set a new career-high with 30 points, and led all players with 10 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.  Louis Christifano Jr. was up to his sharpshooting antics again, going 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from deep, scoring 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench.
