Toussaint Posts Career-High to Push Crusaders Past TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team won their conference match with Texas Lutheran 72-61 on Friday.  They improve to 7-10 overall on the year and are now 1-7 in conference play.

The early goings of the game were pretty even, with two of the games three lead changes happening in the first seven minutes.  The Crusaders took a 15-14 lead with just under 11 minutes in the first half; it would be the last time the lead changed hands, as Dallas led the rest of the way.

That lead change happened right at the very beginning of a 16-4 scoring run that gave Dallas their biggest lead of the night at 29-18.  The Crusaders took a nine point lead into hafltime thanks in no small part to Letrell Toussaint, who was in the midst of a career-best performance.  At the end of the half, he was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line, leading all players with 14 points.

Dallas was in control for much of the second half, but the Bulldogs managed to scrap their way back into the game and nearly erased the deficit completely with just over eight minutes left.  They would never get closer than within two points, however, as the Crusaders would re-establish their double-digit lead before the night was over.

Toussaint was 6-of-8 from the field in the second half, scoring 13 points and setting a new career-high of 27 points in a single game.  His previous best was 22 points, which he also set on the road at TLU in January 2022.

The Crusaders posted their best shooting performance of the season, shooting 54.2% as a team, going 26-of-48 from the field.  It's the third time this year they have cracked 50% shooting as a team.
