Crusaders Take Down MUW for Second Straight Win

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team won their non-conference match with MUW 81-71 on Saturday.  They improve to 6-10 overall on the season and 3-6 at home.

Dallas came out of the gates shooting well, making four of their first five attempts from the field, but MUW hung tight with them the entire way.  With the exception of a 90 second gap where the Owls had a narrow advantage, the Crusaders held the lead for nearly the entire first half.

The Owls nearly tied up the game, cutting the deficit to two points with eight and half to play, but that would be the closest they got in the first half.  Dallas rattled off four unanswered baskets in two minutes to take a 12-point lead, their biggest lead of the game, with a minute and half remaining in the period.

They took a nine-point lead into halftime having shot 51.6% from the field and 44.4% from three in the period.

Both teams came out of the halftime break a bit cold; it took three and a half minutes for either side to score a field goal, combining for an 0-of-10 shooting performance combined in that span.

That, of course, changed as both teams began to find their stroke.  The tense battle resumed, but Dallas never let their grip slip, leading by at least five points for the entire second half.  This win makes it two in two games for the Crusaders.  Though they have struggled in conference play, this now brings their record to 6-3 against non-conference opponents this year.

Jack Boyle led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds, as well as tallying four assists, two blocks, and two steals.  Letrell Toussaint was 5-of-9 from the floor and 9-of-13 from the free throw line for 19 points, on top of snagging eight rebounds.  Johnny Omsted and Louis Christifano Jr. both provided excellent support off the bench. Olmsted scored 15 points with two assists on a 6-of-8 performance from the field, and Christifano Jr. was nearly perfect from beyond the arc, going 4-of-5 on the night with 15 points.
