Men's Basketball Lose Tight Game with Schreiner

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference match with Schreiner University 68-67 on Saturday.  They fall to 4-10 overall on the year and are 0-7 in conference play.

The opening few minutes saw the two teams trade the lead as they both settled into the game, but the Crusaders were already flashes of what would be a brilliant three-point shooting performance in the first half.

With the exception of an 8-8 tie that lasted a minute, the Crusaders led for 17 and a half minutes in the first half.  This was thanks in no small part to Matt Holloway and Louis Christifano Jr., who combined for a 5-of-7, 16 point performance from beyond the arc.  Jack Boyle was also 4-of-6 from the field with a three-pointer, and led all players with three assists to that point.

Though Schreiner was still well within striking distance, Dallas was still firmly in control of the game and took a 35-26 lead into halftime.  They would end the first half shooting 50% from deep as a team.

Dallas extended their lead to 14 six and a half minutes into the second half, but it was there that the wheels slowly began to come off.  Over a three minute span, Schreiner completely shifted the momentum of the game.  They went 4-of-4 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line while Dallas went 0-of-4 with three turnovers, allowing the Mountaineers to score 12 unanswered points to make it a two-point game.

The Mountaineers took the lead a minute later, and suddenly the Crusaders were on their heels after leading for nearly the entire game.  Schreiner never led by more than five, and the Crusaders even tied it up with 2:15 left on the clock, but they would never have the lead again.  The Crusaders went 4-of-5 from the free throw line the last minute to pull themselves within one, but Letrell Toussaint's last second three rattled off the rim as the Mountaineers hung on for the win.

Toussaint was a monster on the boards for the Crusaders, grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds with 11 points.  Jack Boyle had 20 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, going 8-of-15 from the field, and Louis Christifano Jr. ended the night with 11 points in 22 minutes.
