Men's Basketball Edged Out by Trinity

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference match with Trinity University 75-69 on Friday.  They fall to 4-9 overall on the year and 0-6 in conference play.

From the beginning, it was clear this was going to be anybody's game.  The two sides traded blows and the lead for eight and a half minutes, until finally the Crusaders took a 20-19 lead and would hold it for nine striaght minutes.

Dallas never led by more than six, however, and Trinity were right there to reclaim the lead at 39-38 with two and a half minutes after capitalizing on a UD turnover.  Marcus Juarez put the Crusaders back on top with a pair of free throws to close out the half, giving UD the 42-40 lead at the break.

The second half was more of the same tense battle, with five lead changes and four ties in the first eight minutes of the period alone.  The Tigers took a 55-54 lead with 11:45 on the clock and clung to it desperately for five minutes, making it their longest lead of the night.  Juarez tied the game up at 62-62 with just under seven minutes remaining, and from there the back and forth battle resumed.

Trinity took a 66-65 lead with 3:15 left on the clock for what would ultimately be the final lead change of the night.  Both sides fought a fruitless battle for two minutes after that, with Dallas missing their only attempt from the field and their only free throw attempt in that span.

A late turnover by Dallas made it a four point game with less than a minute, and with their shots not falling they were forced to play the foul game.  Trinity put the game away from the free throw line, handing UD the loss.

Jack Boyle led all players with 23 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and led the team with four assists.  Marcus Juarez went 3-8 from beyond the arc, scoring 18 ppoints and grabbing seven rebounds and leading the team with three steals.
