Men's Basketball Edged Out by Southwestern

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference match with Southwestern University 62-58 on Saturday.  They fall to 2-5 overall on the year and are 0-2 in conference.

Dallas got off to a hot start, as has seemingly become habit now, jumping out to an early 15-4 lead after six and a half minutes.  They were wreaking havoc on the Pirates defense, who could only resort to fouling ad nauseam.  They were averaging a foul a minute, and Dallas would end up playing 10 minutes in the bonus.

Unfortunately for the Crusaders, that was right about when they hit a cold streak, going nearly seven minutes without making a field goal as the Pirates came back and claimed the lead.  Going into halftime, the Crusaders knew they hadn't been at their best, but were still very much in the game, only trailing 31-29 at the break.

The Crusaders came out of the tunnel and looked much like the team that started the game, going seven for their first 10 from the field to reclaim the lead at 44-42 after seven and half minutes.

From there, the game was up for grabs as the lead traded hands and the game was leveled up a handful of times.  The Pirates led by as many as six points in the final few minutes, but UD kept it close to the end.  They were within three with a minute remaining, but wouldn't get closer than that as the Pirates held on for the win.

Four Crusaders finished with 10+ points on the night.  Jacob Giunta and Zac Omsted each had 10, Giunta also with three steals and five boards to his name.  Letrell Toussaint had 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals, and Jack Boyle led the team with 17 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks, also with four steals and two assists.
