Boyle Shines in Loss to St. Thomas

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball  team lost their conference matchup with the University of St. Thomas 81-72 this afternoon.  The Crusaders fall to 3-10 on the year and 1-4 in conference play.

Dallas struggled to get their offense going early on, going 1-7 in the first six minutes as they fell behind 15-3.  It was then that Jack Boyle entered the game for the Crusaders and made an immediate impact, scoring five points and grabbing two rebounds in his first three minutes on the court en route to a season-best performance.  The 6-5 sophomore would go on to lead all players with 24 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes, recording his fourth double-double of the season.  Even more impressive was his efficenency, as he was nearly perfect from the fielld (9-10) and the free throw line (6-7).

While the Crusaders certainly managed to turn things around on offense in the second half, outscoring and outperforming the Celts by nearly every metric, the 12-point halftime deficit would prove too much for them to overcome.  Though many close games are determined at the free throw line, this one was ultimately decided from beyond the arc.  You could look at ball control as well, as the Crusaders were on the wrong side of a 20-12 turnover ratio, but the Celts were letting the long shots fly and shot 34.5% from three-point range (10-29) while the Crusaders had one of their worst games from three this season (3-15, 20%).  In the end, it results in the 5th straight loss for the Crusaders.
