Love Headlines All-SCAC Honors with 1st Team Selection; Toussaint tabbed 3rd Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the All-SCAC Awards and Teams were released earlier today, Thursday, March 11.

The University of Dallas men's basketball team had three players selected to the SCAC All-Conference Team. Jai Love (St. Louis, Mo.) was selected All-SCAC First Team, and Letrell Toussaint (Waco, Texas) was selected All-SCAC Third Team, and Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas) was named to the Honorable Mention group.

Coaches voted for 15 places for All-SCAC with 15 points awarded for first-place votes, 14 points for second-place votes, 13 points for third-place votes, etc., down to one point for a 15th-place vote. All players not elected to the First, Second or Third Team, but who received at least one vote, were named Honorable Mention. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

Love receives his second All-SCAC Team selection of his career with his First Team award. Last year, Love was named as an All-SCAC Honorable Mention. In the 2020-2021 season, Love had the 7th best ppg scoring average in the SCAC with 14.3 ppg. He also had the 5th best 3PT shooting percentage at 41.7%. Love also had the top assists per game average in the SCAC dishing out 4.5 assists per game. Love started in all 11 games of the 2020-2021 season for the Crusaders playing at least 30 minutes or more in every game.

Toussaint receives his first All-SCAC Team honor with his selection to the Third Team. Toussaint had the 15th best ppg scoring average in the SCAC with 11.7 ppg. Toussaint had the top rebounding average in the conference, just missing averaging a double-double for the season at 9.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Toussaint was in the SCAC top 5 in both field goal percentage and blocked shots per game. In FG%, Toussaint was 4th shooting 58.2%, and in blocked shots he averaged 1.2 per game. Toussaint started and played in nine out of the 11 games of the 2020-2021 season for the Crusaders playing 20 minutes or more in six games.

Mathis receives his third straight All-SCAC Team Honorable Mention award. Mathis had the 17th best ppg scoring average in the SCAC with 11.2 ppg. Mathis had the 4th best assists per game average at 3.3 assists per game. Mathis started and played in nine out of the 11 games of the 2020-2021 season for the Crusaders playing at least 30 minutes or more in all nine. In his final season as a Crusader, Mathis finishes his career with 703 points, a 40.3% FG percentage, 222 assists, 172 rebounds, 64 steals, and seven blocked shots.
