UD Men's Basketball Unable to Contain Sharp-Shooting Celts on Saturday

IRVING, Texas- The University of Dallas men's basketball team concluded their two game home series against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent St. Thomas University from Houston this weekend. Dallas lost the final game series with St. Thomas in a high-scoring contest, 101-81.

St. Thomas (3-1) came out of the gate fast, jumping to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back. St. Thomas led the entire game with their largest led at 97-73. The closest the Crusaders (0-4) came to taking the lead was after a Cameran Hyde (Missouri City, Texas) free throw that brought the game to 24-19 with 9:37 left in the first half.

Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas) and Hyde contributed big scoring efforts for Dallas. Mathis scored a career high 29 points on 10-18 FGs, 5-9 for 3-pointers, and 4-7 from the line. Hyde's season-high of 22 points came on 7-13 from the field, 2-5 from 3-point range, and 6-7 from the foul line. Letrell Toussaint (Waco, Texas) scored 11 points and his three game double-double streak ended as he only grabbed six rebounds in the game. Mathis was the team leader in rebounds with seven.

Adam Kanafani was St. Thomas' high scorer for the game with 21 points on 8-14 from the floor, 3-5 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 from the free throw line. Kanafani was also the game leader in rebounds with eight.  Juan Hood, Christian Alaekwe, and Cameron Gims each scored in double digits with 13, 13 and 11 points.  Gims was also the game leader in steals and blocked shots with three and two.

Dallas will stay at home this weekend and take on reigning SCAC champions Centenary College of Louisiana. The Crusaders will play the Gents on Friday the 29th and Saturday the 30th and 8 p.m. and 4 p.m.
