
UD Men's Basketball Begins Campaign at Austin College with Friday, Saturday Games
IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team is looking to compete in 2021 with a conference-only scheduling model, playing 12 games. The Crusaders will open the abbreviated campaign starting January 15 at Austin College. They will play back-to-back days on Friday and Saturday over a seven-week stretch that concludes on Feb. 26-27.
The Crusaders (12-13, 8-10 SCAC) open with a 19-man roster that is headlined by a trio of All-SCAC Honorable Mentions in Jai Love (St. Louis, Mo.), Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas), and Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.). Dallas also returns starters Jacob Giunta (Keller, Texas) and Letrell Toussaint (Waco, Texas). Cameran Hyde (Missouri City, Texas) is a returning junior that has contributed the previous two seasons.
Dallas also added seven freshmen to the squad. To see the full roster, please click here. UD Alumni and former UD basketball player Jarred Samples heads the basketball program for his 13th season. Samples is the all-time wins leader with the program with 133.
On Wednesday, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) released the preseason poll and the league's head coaches selected Dallas to finish tied in 4th with Trinity University. University of St. Thomas was selected to repeat while Texas Lutheran University and Centenary were picked ahead in second and third, respectively. Full story
UD will host the 2020 SCAC Regular Season Champion University of St. Thomas on Jan. 22nd and 23rd. The month concludes with the 2020 SCAC Tournament Champion Centenary College on the 29th and 30th.
Dallas goes to Schreiner University on February 5th and 6th and then finishes the home portion of the schedule on Feb. 12th and 13th versus Southwestern University. After a bye week, the Crusaders embark on the road to Colorado College on Feb. 26th and 27th.
The SCAC Tournament is scheduled to be at Southwestern from Thursday, March 4th to Saturday, March 6th. For the first time since the SCAC reinstated a postseason conference basketball tournament in 2003, the event will be split up.
All UD home contests are currently slated to start at 8 p.m. on Friday dates and 4 p.m. on Saturday dates. No spectators will be allowed in the Maher Center for contests, but games will be broadcasted on College TV Ticket.
