SEATTLE, Wash. – University of Dallas men's basketball 2016 graduate, Kyle Poe (Ventura, Calif.), traveled to Costa Rica from June 8th-16th for Beyond Sports' Fourth Annual Costa Rica Men's Basketball Tour.

Poe joined a team of all-conference honorees and statistical leaders from colleges across the country to take on Costa Rica's National Basketball Team and top club teams.

In addition to the competition component of the trip, athletes also provided sports clinics for Costa Rican youth. One clinic was hosted at a local school in San Jose, and another in partnership with Special Olympics of Costa Rica.

"My trip to Costa Rica was unbelievable! I spent my days hosting youth camps and Special Olympics clinics," Poe exclaimed. "Playing professional basketball was an experience not many get to say they have done."

The group also visited Manuel Antonio National Park and Volcano Arenal during the tour with opportunities to zip-line through the rainforest, learn to surf, and encounter wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, toucans and iguanas.

"I got to see monkeys, sloths, and other animals I had never seen before," Poe reflected. "I became great friends with my teammates and will never forget my time spent in such a beautiful country. I want to thank my family, professors, and coaches."

Beyond Sports, founded in 2010, is the first study abroad program designed specifically for student-athletes. To date, they have hosted athletes from over 200 different colleges across the country through summer, Jan-term and semester programs in Costa Rica and South Africa.
