Kaiser tabbed SCAC Character & Community Male Student Athlete of the Week

TOM KAISER OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a member of the men's basketball team, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week beginning May 2, 2016.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics and serve their campus and community.

Kaiser joined forces with 16 fellow University of Dallas students this past spring break and journeyed to McAllen, Texas, located on the Rio Grande across from the Mexican city of Reynosa. Kaiser assisted in helping construct houses on the building site, Proyecto Azteca, and working at Catholic Charities refugee center that provides single parents and their children with food, clothing, friendly conversation, and a place to shower.

"I enjoy doing service, because I think it is gratifying to give back to the community, and I appreciate the opportunity that this trip gave me to make a difference in peoples' lives," Kaiser explained. "Overall this trip was a great experience for me, because I was able to help those in need by helping to build them a house and serving them at soup kitchens."

Additionally, Kaiser serves at a local middle school once a week to mentor one of the sixth graders.

Kaiser is majoring in psychology with a concentration in human sciences. For the second straight year, Kaiser earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-Academic Team. To qualify for the honor, a student must boast at least a 3.5 GPA.

On the court, Kaiser was a force inside for the Crusaders. He led the team in total rebounds (192), rebounds per game (8.3), and blocked shots (33). The forward notched career-highs in all of those categories and averaged 11.0 point per contest. That mark was a personal best as well and rounded out the top three scorers for UD.
