SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (10-15, 4-10 SCAC) fell at Austin College (14-10, 4-10 SCAC) on Saturday. The Crusaders poured 54 points in the second half, but could not erase a 10-point deficit at intermission.

In a 6-6 knotted game early through the first five minutes, the 'Roos swung a 15-6 point scoring run on the board to capture a nine-point edge (21-12) with just under halfway to go through the opening stanza. The advantage grew to as many as 14 for the home team, but Dallas had four points on field goals by junior Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Rory MacCallum (Golden, Colo.) to close the final 1:28 minutes.

A split at the free throw line by freshman Darrius Colven (Waco, Texas) cut the Crusaders' deficit to four points (43-39), as the guests went on a 15-9 run over the first six minutes of the second half.

Austin College got six points out of the next eight points to get the lead back to eight on a couple occasions, before reaching back towards a double-digit gap as Jeremy Swisher made a jumper. A few timely baskets, including treys by Alan Sullivan and Josh Dickerman kept the margin around the same for most of the half.

With 4:30 minutes in the game, UD gave one final effort to get the contest within four points (74-70) in the next two minutes. With 3:31 to go, senior Sean Bambace completed an old fashioned three-point play to cut things to 70-65. Gonzalez would tally the next five points and cut the Dallas deficit to the narrowest it would get with the second old fashioned three-point play in that span.

The Maroon and Gold withstood the run and kept Dallas from maintaining the momentum with four unanswered from Sullivan, which also was capped by a layup and free throw on a three-point play for the home side.

A jumper from Gonzalez ended a minute drought and kept UD within six. The margin could not be snipped under six the rest of the way. The native of San Antonio, Texas, scored the final 13 points for the Crusaders in the remaining 2:56 minutes. His trey with 12 seconds ended the scoring with 12 seconds. Sophomore Solomon Berezin (League City, Texas) swiped a steal with seven seconds but missed a three-pointer that would have made it a one possession contests.
