Men's Basketball Pulls Away from Dallas Christian in Tuesday's Win

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (6-6) improved to .500 for the second time this season and won its fifth-straight contest at the Maher Center on Tuesday night versus Dallas Christian College. The final score was 88-79, as UD shot a season-high 60.7 percent (34-of-56) and matched a season-high 56.3 percent (9-of-16) beyond the three-point arc.

The visiting Crusaders started things quickly with the first five points in 45 seconds, before junior Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) drained a trey to get the home squad on the board. His first of two trifectas launched a 9-0 run for Dallas, but DCC later took the advantage, 16-15, with 13:07 minutes until halftime on a layup by Derek Hearns. That margin would increase to 19-15 on a trey by Logan Brown.

Trailing three with 7:24 remaining in the opening stanza, a layup by junior Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) sparked a 27-5 scoring swing to close things out and give the Crusaders a 50-31 edge. During this streak, five of the Navy and White's seven three-pointers in the frame were connected on. This included two from junior Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas), senior Sean Bambace (San Antonio, Texas), and sophomore Solomon Berezin (League City, Texas).

Out of the break, DCC made gains at cutting the deficit but would fall back with the home team countering with small scoring spans. This included the Crusaders leading by their largest amount of 21 in the game with 14:33 to go.

Dallas Christian climbed as close as 13 (60-47) on a jumper by Trey Lindsey with 13:15 in the contest, but freshman Darrius Colvin (Waco, Texas) and sophomore Rory MacCallum (Golden, Colo.) extended the gap back to 66-47. MacCallum tossed in the last four points in a row.

A last attempt of a run by the guests would start around six and a half minutes from the final buzzer. Lindsey drove on a layup and started a 9-2 run, which included a Hearns triple and two offensive rebound tip-ins. The latter one by Robert Washington brought the margin to 11 (78-67) with 4:16 left.

UD responded with 10 of the next 14 points, including five by Sarrat to secure a comfortable edge again. The visiting Crusaders rounded out the scoreboard with eight-straight points in the last minute and a half, including two three-pointers.
