Roanoke's Offense too much for Men's Basketball Friday
ROANOKE, Va. – The University of Dallas men's basketball team (0-2) fell 95-72 at Roanoke College (2-1) on the first day of the "Dick Leftwich V-Foundation Classic" on Friday. The Crusaders battled early, but were unable to hold a Roanoke squad – averaging 107 points-per-game through two contests – at bay. The Maroons shot 54.7-percent (35-for-64) from the floor and 59.3-percent (16-for-27) from beyond the three-point line.
Through the first portion of the opening stanza, Dallas kept up with the host school, forcing seven lead changes and two ties during that span. A jumper by freshman Ronnie Horner (Forney, Texas) would lift the Navy and White to their final advantage of the contest, 22-20.
A trifecta by Dustin Hassell, who posted a game-high 17 points, would lift Roanoke back in front for good and sparked streak of 14 unanswered points. Junior Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) layup with 4:15 until the break ended the run. RC managed a 46-29 halftime edge after closing the frame on a 26-7 outburst. The 46 points were a season-low for points tallied in a first half this season for the Maroons.
