@UDallasMBB subdues Southwestern, 70-64

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (9-8, 3-4 SCAC) won 70-64 over Southwestern University (5-12, 2-5 SCAC) on Sunday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center.

After the Crusaders held a half-high nine-point lead, the Pirates used an 8-0 run to pull within one point (29-28) of knotting the score.

Dallas converted 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the field in the first-half, and went into the break with a 33-30 advantage.

Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas) tallied 14 of his game-high 23 points in the opening period. The junior forward finished with seven rebounds (two offensive) and an assist in 31 minutes on the court.

There were four lead changes in the second-half. Southwestern took their first lead (45-44), with 11:39 remaining in the game.

With 5:44 left in the contest, the scoreboard swung for good in the favor of head coach Jarred Samples' squad. Down the stretch, the navy and white pushed to a game-high 10-point (67-57) lead.

Southwestern minimized their defict to three points (67-64), in the game's final 30 seconds, but Dallas persevered to a six-point victory to claim their third conference win of the season.

Senior guard Nate Wilson (Fairbanks, Alaska) and the Pirates' Chase Kocher each totalled 17 points. 

Southwestern got 13 points from Sean Myers, while junior guards Kym Malone (Richardson, Texas) and Blaine Blackburn (Midlothian, Texas) had 10 points apiece for Dallas to round-out double-figure scorers.

Wilson recorded a game-high eight rebounds (two offensive), along with teammate and senior forward/center Ross Davidson (Dana Point, Calif). Two of those were on the offensive glass for Davidson.

The Crusaders outrebounded their opponent (36-20) and took points in the paint (30-26).

Dallas heads to San Antonio to face Trinity University in a 6 p.m. tip-off on Friday.
