Men's Basketball staves off Southwestern, snatches 73-71 (2OT) SCAC thriller

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (8-4, 3-1 SCAC) won 73-71 in double-overtime over Southwestern University on Saturday evening, and sit third in conference with key games approaching.

Dallas led 35-26 at halftime, but Southwestern (5-9, 1-3 SCAC) forced overtime after limiting the Crusaders to 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) shooting from the field in the second half.

With neither team able to gain separation in the first overtime, an ebb-and-flow double-overtime saw senior guard Drew Assinesi (Pasadena, Calif.) net a layup with nine seconds remaining to give the Crusaders a two-point triumph.

Junior forward Ross Davidson (Dana Point, Calif.) finished tied for a game-high 18 points with Southwestern's Michael Cantu.

A number of statistical categories proved tight between the teams. Dallas netted an additional field goal and two more free throws, while claiming a 43-38 rebounds advantage in victory.

Next opponent:

Dallas will host Colorado College (5-6, 3-0 SCAC) on Friday, Jan. 11, in an 8 p.m. tip-off at the Maher Athletic Center.
