Men's Basketball can't tame Tigers; Bruffey's 23-points tie for game-high, but hot-shooting Trinity University deals Crusaders 87-69 road loss

SAN ANTONIO - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (2-7, 0-2 SCAC) was tripped-up 87-69 on the road Friday evening at Sam's Gymnasium by Trinity University.

Trinity (5-4, 2-1 SCAC) displayed red-hot shooting that carried throughout the course of the game, as the Tigers netted 67.9-percent (19-of-28) from the field in the first half, while sinking 57.1-percent (16-of-28) in the second half.

With a 23-10 advantage at 10:41 of the opening half, Trinity led by 26-points (50-24) by halftime.

Tanner Bruffey (Lubbock, Texas/Home School) was about the only bright-spot for the Crusaders in the first half, as the 6-foot-5 junior forward led Dallas with 10-points before ending the game tied for a game-high 23-points with Trinity's Zach Lambert.

Bruffey's high-mark came on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-7 effort from 3-point land. He also addded four rebounds, an assist and a steal in 32-minutes on the floor.

After shooting 47.6-percent (10-of-21) in the first half, Dallas converted on 51.7-percent (15-of-29) from the field in the second half, on their way to outscoring Trinity in the period, 45-37.

A resilient Dallas squad diminished their large deficit to just 10-points (79-69) with 2:21 to-go in the game, when 6-foot-5 freshman forward Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy) made good on a layup.

Wyatt finished with six-points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field, while registering six rebounds (two offensive) and a steal in 31-minutes of game action.

Braeton Hightower (Owasso, Okla./Owasso H.S.) was Dallas' only other double-figure scorer, as the 5-foot-9 sophomore guard accumulated 19-points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, including netting 3-of-8 from 3-point range, and 4-of-7 from the charity stripe. He also had an offensive rebound, an assist and a steal in 31-minutes of play.

The Crusaders for the game were out-rebounded, 29-21, and turned the ball over 18 times. Trinity also had a significant advantage in terms of points-in-the paint, leading the category, 42-20.
