Reed's sharp-shooting fuels Arlington Baptist College to 59-55 defeat of Men's Basketball

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (1-3) fell Tuesday evening on the road to Arlington Baptist College (ABC), 59-55.

Throughout the game, Dallas was marred by the inability to accurately shoot the basketball from distance, sinking just 6.7 percent (1-of-15) of their attempted 3-pointers.

ABC's Rod Reed had no such problem. Reed's game-high 26-points came predominately from beyond the arc, as he was a staggering 8-of-14 from 3-point land for the contest.

Despite the Crusaders' inability to contain Reed, Dallas certainly had their chances to seize control of the game from the Patriots. The score entering halftime was 32-28 in favor of ABC. In the first half, Dallas shot 40-percent (12-of-30), with ABC converting on 48.1-percent (13-of-27) from the field.

When play resumed, ABC was able to increase their lead to a game-high 11-points at the 16:03 mark of the second half. The Crusaders, however, answered the Patriots with a 12-4 run, orchestrated by 6-foot-6 freshman forward Alex Winebarger (Greenville, S.C./St. Joseph's Catholic School). During this nearly nine-minute span, Winebarger accounted for nine points, including a converted "And One" play, which gave Dallas a two-point advantage.

One of three Crusaders to enter double-digit scoring, Winebarger tallied 12 points, on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, and 2-of-2 shooting from the free-throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds (one offensive), in addition to notching an assist and a block in 21-minutes of play.

Dallas' other two double-digit scorers were 6-foot-5 freshman forward Aaron Wyatt (Frisco, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy) and 6-foot-5 junior forward Tanner Bruffey (Lubbock, Texas/Home School). Wyatt netted a game-high 16 points, on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, and a 2-of-4 day from the charity stripe. He also totaled three rebounds (three offensive) in 22-minutes of action. Meanwhile, Bruffey contributed 10 points, in shooting 4-of-11 from the field, 1-of-4 from 3-point range and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also recorded a rebound, a block and two assists in 34-minutes of play.

The Crusaders grew their lead to five-points at the 5:48 mark of the second half. Unfortunately for Dallas, Reed scortched the twine with back-to-back 3-point shots, which gave ABC their fourth lead of the game, a one-point advantage with 1:45 to go. From this piont, some late turnovers cost Dallas, allowing the Patriots to capture a four-point victory, 59-55.

Dallas held ABC to 26.9-percent (7-of-26) second-half shooting, while the Crusaders rattled home 41.4-percent (12-of-29) from the field in the final period.

A free-throw disparity proved detrimental for Dallas in the second half -- the Patriots were 7-of-14 from the free-throw line, and the Crusaders, 3-of-5.
