Men's Basketball suffers road defeat at hands of Hendrix College

CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Dallas men's basketball team (2-18) fell on Tuesday evening to Hendrix College (8-14), 67-46.

Things started off well for the Crusaders, who were able to net an early lead when Ross Davidson (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./JSerra Catholic H.S.) put home the game's first score on a jump shot.

Davidson finished the contest with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 night from the free throw line. Additionally, the freshman forward tallied eight rebounds.

After Hendrix College's Ammon Martin evened the score on the Warriors' ensuing possession, junior guard Barrett Brown (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe H.S.) and sophomore guard Matt Kewell (Coto de Caza, Calif./JSerra Catholic H.S.) recorded the game's next two buckets, giving Dallas the four point advantage.

At the 15:59 mark of the opening period, Chris Goodman seized the lead for Warriors, drilling a three-pointer. Dallas quickly countered with a made jumper by Kewell 23 seconds later, but Hendrix College's Dayton Sheridan responded, sinking a jump shot of his own.

After Goodman sank another three-pointer -- this time with 48 seconds remaining in the first half -- Dallas went into halftime trailing the Warriors, 26-23. In totality, there were five lead changes in the first half of play.

When play resumed, Brown pulled the Crusaders within a point of evening the score, netting a jumper. From this point, however, things seemingly took a turn for the worse for Dallas. With 14:16 remaining in the tilt, Hendix College held a double-digit 11 point lead.

Senior guard Joe Edison (Tulsa, Okla./Metro Christian Academy) was able to diminish Dallas' deficit back to single digits when he hit a jumper at the 11:18 mark of the second half, cutting Hendrix College's lead to nine points.

Down the stretch, however, the Warriors really turned it on. With a slew of missed shots by the Crusaders and a potent Hendrix College offense, a 21 point defeat resulted for Dallas.

In the final period, Dallas shot 32.1 percent (9-of-28), while Hendrix College poured in 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the field.

Up next for the Crusaders will be a game against St. Thomas (Texas) University on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Maher Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
