FIRST PITCH
The University of Dallas baseball team faces Howard Payne University on the road for a doubleheader on Saturday. The action gets underway at 12:00 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas. The Crusaders (2-1) are coming off a series win over Sul Ross State University on February 1st and 2nd. Dallas won both games on Saturday 8-1 and 13-11, but dropped the series finale 11-9.
UD NOTES
- Dallas and Howard Payne split its doubleheader last season. HPU took the first game 12-5, while UD came back in the second game to win 7-2 in Irving,
- Jamie Wallace (Crockett, Texas) battled in 5.1 innings of work out of the bullpen in the second game of the series versus Sul Ross State University. Wallace punched out nine batters and only allowed three earned runs in his appearance to earn the win.
- Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) had a hot bat at the plate in the opening series. Taylor notched nine RBI, seven total bases, five hits, and two doubles. Taylor also swiped two bases over the weekend.
- Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) got the opening-day start. Voss pitched the complete game, only allowing one run and one walk to help UD gather its first win. Voss led the SCAC in wins (8) a season ago.
- Dallas smacked four homeruns in the first series of the season. Ross Lowe (Lewisville, Texas), Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas), Andrew Womack (Vienna, Va.), and Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) all went deep in the series at Sul Ross.
A LOOK AT THE YELLOW JACKETS
- Howard Payne is coming off a 3-1 weekend over the University of St. Thomas (TX). UST is the newest member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) and UD will face them in conference competition later this season.
- Nolyn Box accumulated nine hits, six runs, three doubles, and five RBI in the series at UST.
- Kyle Purdes picked up a win over the weekend on the mound, giving up seven hits, but only one unearned run in five innings of work.
- Bryant Chambers also notched his first win on the campaign in the opening series Chambers gatherd a team-leading five strikeouts in the victory.
- HPU has committed 11 errors in four games, including five in a single game.

Dallas will make its home debut next weekend when the Crusaders host Arlington Baptist University next Saturday (Feb. 22) and Sunday (Feb. 23). Saturday's doubleheader begins at 12:00 p.m. The series finale is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
