FIRST PITCH

The University of Dallas baseball team picks up with its busy week for a three-game set on the road at Southwestern University. After starting Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play last Friday through Sunday (included 2.1 suspended innings) with defending conference champion, Centenary College, the Crusaders took on Arlington Baptist College in a non-conference matchup Wednesday.

Dallas had won four-of-five games to start the month off, but have dropped five in a row. This stretch concluded a 2-5 home stand. The Crusaders are 2-8 in away games, but won the three-game series at Texas Wesleyan University in their last road outings.


UDCRUSADER HEADLINES

- Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas) headlines the offense with a .465 batting average (2nd in SCAC), 33 hits, seven doubles, and 25 RBIs for team-highs. Patton is on an active 10-game hitting streak, which surpassed his previous nine-game streak to start the spring. The third baseman has been named D3Baseball.com Team of the Week twice this year.

- Jessup Scott (Lewiston, Idaho) is the other batter hitting north of .400 with a .405-clip. He has totaled 15 hits (tied 4th highest) with a double, triple, and 11 ribbies (2nd on team). The catcher has driven in a run in four-of-five contests and reached base safely in six-of-seven.

- Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) continues to reach base, having now made it to 51 straight dating back to 2017. The league leader in walks (25) has earned one in 15 games, and eclipsed three in four appearances. He also is atop the conference stolen bases (17).

- Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) is second on the squad with 23 hits and is hitting .324. The middle infielder has gone 8-of-9 on the base paths. Zach Taylor (Humble, Texas) has ripped a home run and triple in two of the last three games.

- Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) and Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) have reached double figures in appearances with 11 and 10, respectively. Voss holds a 3-3 record and 4.18 ERA.

- Tyler Montemayor (Boerne, Texas) has tossed a team-high 31 innings, and made four straight starts in game one of the past four series.

A LOOK AT THE PIRATES

- Southwestern has dropped its last four. After starting SCAC play with a sweep at Trinity University, it fell Wednesday at home to Chicago 6-4.

- The team is batting a .245 average and pitchers are posting a 6.64 earned-run-average.

- Seth Parks paces the offense wit ha .411 average and 23 hits. He has contributed five doubles and driven in eight.

- Jason McCormack is batting .300 with a team-high 10 RBI. Bryon Dowdell II has produced a team-leading seven doubles. SU has 27 two-baggers total.

- Tyler Polasek has thrown a team-high 23.1 innings and gone 2-2. He has made four starts, while Jacob Frankel and Will Preston have made three apiece.


UP NEXT

Dallas is back home for a three-game SCAC series versus Austin College over Easter Weekend. On March 30th, a doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. with the series finale the next day at the same start time.
