Crusaders Collegiate Summer League Update

IRVING, Texas – Several players for the University of Dallas baseball team have been hard at work this summer playing in collegiate summer leagues.

Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) remained local and played for teams in the Great Southwest Collegiate League. Each have produced strong results for their respective squads.

Peterson has mostly played first base for the Dallas Dirtbags, who just won the regular season title (28-6) and league championship. The team will be playing in the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas, next week. Peterson is batting .324 (24-75) with a team-high seven doubles and two triples. He leads the team in ribbies with 18. Abalos played for Tarrant Country Cagerats (23-12), who finished third in the standings. Among everyday players, Abalos led his team in hitting (.352) and stolen bases (5). He was tied with three players for third in total hits (25). He has drawn 10 walks and scored 14 runs. Click here to view complete statistics.

Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Kyle Gamez (Burleson, Texas) are playing on the Fort McMurry Giants in the Western Major Baseball League in Canada. Stickler has shared time in the outfield and has been starting everyday of late. Gamez has been used in relief out of the bullpen. Click here to view the league's website.

Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas), Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas), and Paul Scioli (Lubbock, Texas) are playing on the Collin County Hooks that is part of the Metro Summer Collegiate League. Recent UD graduate, William Marshall ('17), is the fourth teammate with that bunch as he looks to continue his baseball career. Marshall earned pitcher of the week award for the week of June 12-18. Austin Offutt (Frisco, Texas) is also playing in that same league.

Finally, brothers Joseph Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) and Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) are in a league in St. Louis as they prepare for the next season close to home.

Nine players for the Crusaders playing this summer will be seeking to make an impact again in the 2018 season. Six of these players lettered for Dallas last spring. Head Coach Joe Myers enters his fourth season since being named an interim head coach in 2015.
