Baseball blanked in Sunday's finale by the Lobos
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team fell in the rubber game on Sunday to Sul Ross State University 4-0. It was the second shutout of the series, this time coming from the Lobos as starting pitcher Cody Remore. The Crusaders only collected three hits and a couple errors led to a pair of unearned runs that helped spot an early edge for the visitors.

NOTABLE STATISTICS
- JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.) knocked one of UD's hits for a double. It was one of two extra base knocks in the game on either side.
- Josh Abalos (Lewisville, Texas) and Seth Hanson (Apache Junction, Ariz.) recorded the other hits for the home squad.
- Hanson finished with three hits, a double, and two RBI, in two games of his debut weekend with the Crusaders.
- Conrad Voss (Corona, Calif.) was the first newcomer pitcher to appear this season. He was saddled with the loss in four innings of a start where he allowed all four runs (2 earned) on six hits and a walk allowed.
- Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) fanned three batters in two innings of relief. He joined Voss with three strikeouts a piece.
- Kyle Gamez (Burleson, Texas) was the lone right-handed pitcher for Dallas to toe the rubber Sunday. Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) threw the final inning and is also a southpaw.
- Sul Ross was led by Colton Barrington with two hits, a double, and pair of runs batted in.
- Phillip Russell and Wesley Moss added multi-hit games. Chris York and Trent Pearson posted an RBI apiece.
- Remore limited UD to three hits and walked two in the shutout. He also fanned six in the complete game shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lobos got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs, which turned out to be enough in this one. With one out, Munden walked and then advanced 90 feet on a balk. After UD's Voss struck out Jarrett Madrid, Pearson singled to center to score Munden. Barrington followed with a double to center and Pearson raced around the three bases to make it 2-0.
Sul Ross added an unearned run apiece in the third and fourth to complete the runs scored. Johnny Campos led off the next frame for the visitors by reaching on a fielding error by shortstop. An infield hit followed, but then Voss induced a 4-3 double play as Campos made it to third. York singled over to right and scored Campos. SRSU's last run came in the next inning as Barrington picked up his other RBI on another knock to center. Madrid started the inning with a single, and scored after advancing during Barrington's at bat on another Dallas miscue.
The Crusaders first scoring opportunity was in the bottom of the third when down three runs. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) reached on a fielder's choice with two outs. He stole second and then raced to third on a wild pitch next. Abalos struck out swinging ending the threat however.
Hanson etched the first hit for the Navy and White in the 5th inning. He was thrown out on the same play trying to stretch the hit at second as the Lobos' left fielder made a good assist to short and then he relayed to the second baseman who applied the tag. That ended UD's inning.
Still down 4 run, the final two innings for the home team witnessed chances at breaking the shutout bid. In the eighth, Fasone started the Dallas turn to bat with a double to center. An out later, Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) pinch hit and earned a free pass. The inning ended on a dropped third strike and then Fasone was out at third as the runners tried advancing on the play.
The Crusaders posted their other hit in the ninth as Abalos went to right field and moved Stickler to second after he walked the previous plate appearance. Brice Cell (Keller, Texas) grounded out to first, but advanced the pair of runners into scoring position. Luke Boylson (Fairview, Texas) flied out to left and ended the ballgame.

Dallas remains in the DFW area for a trio of single games from February 10-12. All contests will be at QuickTrip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Crusaders take on Hendrix College that Friday at 6 p.m. The other two games have Concordia University and Hardin-Simmons University opposing, respectively.
