Baseball swept by No. 2 Trinity on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision on Sunday afternoon to No. 2 Trinity University. Dallas was only outhit by one, but the Tigers were able to score in five of the eight innings they batted. The Crusaders have dropped the past nine.

GAME INFORMATION

Team Scores: University of Dallas (0), #2 Trinity University (7)

Team Records: Dallas (4-18, 0-3 SCAC), Trinity (20-4, 5-1 SCAC)

Pitching Decisions: W) Turner (3-1), L) Villanueva (0-2)

Trinity built an early 2-0 advantage through the first two innings. The Maroon and Gold got on the board with Drew Butler lifting a fly ball to left for a sacrifice fly. Connor Moore scored on the out. In the second frame, Andrew Waters doubled down the left field line to drive in Brody Fehmel.

The Crusaders were hitless through three innings, until freshman Thomas Martin (Vancouver, Wash.) singled up the middle to extend his hitting streak to four games. The starting right fielder has hit safely in five of the past six. Martin would advance to second with two outs on a wild pitch, but was left there on a swinging strikeout.

Other than that, UD's offense did not generate many opportunities. The best chance was in the top of the 7th when Martin and junior Zach San Roman (Miami, Fl.) led off the inning with consecutive singles. However, the next three batters went down in order, as the pair only advanced 90 feet on a one-out, groundout by junior JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.).

At that juncture the scoreboard was 5-0 in favor of the second ranked team in D3baseball.com polls. The Tigers added another pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on two bases-loaded walks.
