Baseball blanked on Sunday against Trinity

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team (6-25, 2-13 SCAC) dropped the series finale of a three-game set versus No. 22 Trinity University (22-9, 7-5 SCAC) on Sunday. The result was a 5-0 setback, as Dallas was blanked consecutive games to the Top 25 ranked foe.

The Tigers have won six of the past seven, and utilized a four-run fifth inning to propel them to the sweep.

It was a tight contest through the first three innings at Crusader Field. A two-out rally sparked by TU's Austin Singer double helped get the Dallas opponent on the board in the fourth. Beau Attyah got the RBI-knock to put the Maroon and Gold on top.

In the next frame, Trinity loaded the bases and Jeremy Wolf turned on pitch; sending it over right field for a grand slam. The homer was plenty to seal the affair.

UD did challenge a couple of moments throughout. The first big threat occurred in the fourth, as sophomore Alex Stack (Keller, Texas) singled on a sharp hit through the left side. He advanced on a wild pitch with no outs, but would be left at second.

In the eighth inning, the Crusaders got two of the team's eight base knocks on the day from sophomore JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.) and Stack. Both would be stranded on the corners as Senior Trevor Keele (Edgewood, Texas) flew out to deep center.

Both Stack and Keele posted two-of-four efforts at the dish. Also collecting hits for UD were seniors Nolan Kipp (Folsom, Calif.) and Jake Pierce (Tucson, Ariz.), and sophomore Avery Arnold (McKinney, Texas).

Kipp posted the only extra base knock for the home squad, with a double in the seventh inning. Pierce has recorded a hit in thee of the past four, combining for five in 13 at bats (.385).

Trinity compiled nine hits, with Drew Butler and Singer notching the multi-hit performances. Wolf and Attyah notched RBI for the Tigers.

Senior Martin Cronin (The Woodlands, Texas) pitched on back-to-back days, this time going four innings. The right-hander scattered five hits and allowed the lone run in the fourth. He walked one to match one strikeout.

Two arms that helped bridge the gap were freshman Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) and senior Luciano Villanueva (San Antonio, Texas). The duo combined for five innings, with Griesbauer tossing the middle three frames.

The southpaw fanned two, limiting TU to a pair of hits. Villanueva made his second appearance on the bump this campaign, and second within the week. The starting left fielder hasn't allowed a run through three innings, and he struck out two on Sunday.

Taking the start for the Tigers was Trent Rape (3-2), who earned the winning decision. He worked around six hits and blanked Dallas through seven innings. Rape struck out a game-high eight batters.

Teddy Turner completed the last two innings of relief, and gave up two hits to go with a trio of punch outs.
