Armstrong's big day at the Plate not Enough; Texas-Dallas clips Baseball on Tuesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team (6-22) dropped a 14-9 decision on Tuesday afternoon versus University of Texas at Dallas (15-13). Dallas has fallen in 10-straight, while the Comets have won four in a row.

Senior Anthony Armstrong (Richardson, Texas) broke out for a season-high three hits in five at-bats. The designated hitter clobbered his first home run of the campaign, scored twice, and totaled five RBI for a career-high.

After going hitless the first three innings, sophomore Alex Stack (Keller, Texas) reached base for the second consecutive time to spark a six-hit fourth. All base knocks occurred in a row, which helped nip a 4-0 deficit.

Armstrong's double down the left field line cut the gap in half and was his first smack of the big day. Senior Jake Pierce (Tucson, Ariz.) kept the order moving with a hit to right that scored freshman Patch Healy (Plano, Texas).

Rounding out the eruption of offense for UD was senior Hunter Berry (Keller, Texas), who reached on an infield single. An errant throw by the opposition's third baseman benefited the home squad for its first advantage of the affair.

The Crusaders pushed the lead to 6-4 in the next inning, as Pierce connected on a sharp single through the left side again. This time senior Luciano Villanueva (San Antonio, Texas) crossed the dish.

Texas-Dallas shifted the momentum back in its favor in the top of the sixth. UTD mustered four runs to regain the edge for the rest of the way. After a Haden Johnson walk led things off, a sacrifice bunt on the next batter set the table for five-straight knocks by the visitors.

Brandon George and Brandon Clounch ripped RBI-singles, respectively, to trade run margins with the Navy and White.

A five-run seventh opened a 13-6 lead, the largest of the game for the Comets. Both teams traded runs in the next two at bats they got, before Armstrong's long ball in the ninth completed the big scoring output overall.

The Crusaders were outhit 16-11, and committed three errors to a pair of miscues by UTD.

A quartet of players in the home dugout collected multi-hit performances. Joining Armstrong's three were: Stack, Healy, and Pierce with two apiece. Villanueva crossed the plate three times, while Pierce knocked two in.

Tim Cole and George each posted a trio of hits and combined for seven RBI in the triumph. George belted a homer in the first inning to get Texas-Dallas in the scoring column early.

As a team, the Comets drew seven free passes.

Sophomore Eric Felchak (The Woodlands, Texas) earned the start for the Crusaders, going 3.2 innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits with three walks. Taking the loss was freshman Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) with four runs on three hits surrendered in 1.2 innings.

Also toeing the rubber in this one included: sophomores Avery Arnold (McKinney, Texas) and Cole Morden (Arlington, Texas), and Villanueva.

Getting the winning decision for UTD was Tristin Dermargosian (1-0), who pitched the fifth frame. His final line was two hits, a run, a walk, and two strikeouts. Andrew Leilich hurled three innings to bridge the most of the latter five half innings the Comets were in the field.
