Baseball falls Sunday against Texas Lutheran

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team (6-18, 2-7 SCAC) was topped 10-1 on Sunday afternoon versus Texas Lutheran University (18-8, 7-2 SCAC). Dallas has fallen in six-straight with all coming in league-action the past two home series.

TLU jumped on the board quickly with two in its first trip to the plate. A wild pitch from junior Denton Martin (Denton, Texas) advanced Matt King across the dish. Justin Law would lift a fly out to bring home Keaton Bohrmann on the sacrifice.

Martin (1-3) battled through five innings, allowing five runs on six hits to go with a pair of walks and five punch outs. Junior Brian Donley (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Blake Palmer (Coppell, Texas) threw at least an inning out of the pen with 1.2 and 2.1, respectively.

A trio of runs for the road squad in the fifth began a stretch of scoring in four of the final five frames. UD scored to cut the deficit to four in the bottom half; as sophomore JP Fasone (Englewood, Colo.) drove in one with his lone hit of the affair.

The Bulldogs outhit the Navy and White by a 12-5 mark. The guests added more than enough offense to sweep as Texas Lutheran notched a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. A two-run ninth completed the day as Dallas was outscored 23-6 over the three games.

Senior Luciano Villanueva (San Antonio, Texas) claimed the only multi-hit outing for the Crusaders with a pair. He combined for eight knocks over the home stand. Also finding a hole were seniors Hunter Berry (Keller, Texas) and Anthony Armstrong (Richardson, Texas).

Two players formed a tandem to pace the Black and Gold's offense with three hits apiece. Tony Gennusa and Bohrmann were the duo that performed the feat and chipped in an RBI each. Law and Holden Bryant contributed two runs driven each.

On the bump, Derek Cantu (2-0) got the nod and won with five innings of one-run ball. His only blemish was in the fifth, as he scattered four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Lincoln Baylor sat five batters down via strikeout in three innings of relief.
