Baseball emerges from big-hit Outing on top of Carleton College

FRISCO, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball (4-2) team won its third game of the last four after topping Carleton College (1-3), 12-5, on Sunday at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. It was the second triumph in as many outings for the Navy and White at the venue home of the Texas Rangers Double-A affiliate, the Frisco Roughriders.

After clobbering 14 hits in game 1 of an 11-2 win versus Whitman College in Irving, Texas, the Crusaders surpassed the mark with 15 in Sunday's affair. CC also ripped double-digits in hit total as a team with 14.

UD was able to break more season-bests with 12 runs and 10 walks in the win. Over the last four games, Dallas tallied 34 runs while allowing 19 to opponents.

Six players found the hit column, with five posting multiple base knocks. Sophomore Alex Stack (Keller, Texas) claimed a game-high three hits out of four at bats. The third baseman recorded his third, three-hit contest of the campaign and second in back-to-back days.

Stack is hitting .479 and brought his RBI count to a trio after driving a pair in UD's massive five-run 8th on a single up the middle.

After three scoreless innings, the Crusaders took the lead with a two-run fourth inning. Seniors Nolan Kipp (Folsom, Calif.) and Zack Boylson (Fairview, Texas) each drove in a run via a single and reaching on a fielder's choice, respectively.

The outfield duo combined for eight RBI, splitting the total evenly with four apiece to guide Dallas in run production.

Kipp matched Stack's three-hit outing with a 1.000 batting average and reached safely all five times in the matchup.

Boylson and freshman Patch Healy (Plano, Texas) wrapped up the multiple hit club on the day with two each.

Carleton responded an inning and a half later with three runs being etched onto the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Baker for the Knights would single through the left side and pick up two RBI after CC placed runners on second and third with one out. The squad's third double of the frame would propel them ahead for the first and lone time of the contest.

The Navy and White countered with a run in the sixth to knot things back up and would score on the final trio of innings to keep the momentum on its side. Dallas tacked on three in the seventh and opened the affair with five in the eighth.

Taking the win for UD was senior Trevor Keele (1-0) after 2.1 innings of relief work for starter freshman Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) The southpaw who debuted for the Crusaders went five and allowed all three runs off eight hits. He struck out three hitters while walking none.

Keele, who normally plays at first, but began at the designated hitter, allowed two hits and compiled five punch outs in his work out of the bullpen. This comes two days after recording his first save in a 7-6 decision.

Sophomore Eric Felchak (The Woodlands, Texas) and freshman Jack Brunk (Lemont, Ill.) also made appearances on the bump for UD.

Carleton's Nolan Baker was tabbed to start and amassed six frames of work while allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. Command hurt him at times, as losing it benefited Dallas with five free passes.

Getting marked with the losing decision was Luke Curtis (0-1) with three runs allowed in 0.2 innings pitched. Two hits were smacked against the pitcher in the seventh but three walks were detrimental additionally.

Baker led the offense with two RBI and a run scored to go along with a pair of hits, which five players did for the Knights. Cody Bohlman, Hayden Tsutsui, Jordan Zoellmer, and Jack Atterberry all were in the unit of multiple hit earners.

STAT OF THE GAME

Dallas took advantage of a season-high 10 walks, while the Navy and White only sent one CC player to first via base on balls.
