Brookhaven 6, @UDallasBaseball 3 | Brookhaven 5, #UDCrusaders 2

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team dropped a pair of contests versus Brookhaven College on Saturday afternoon. Game one went to BC, 6-3, and the second affair of the twinbill was a 5-2 setback.

Dallas (0-2) combined for 17 hits in the double header, but couldn't limit the opposition's offense with 11 runs given up total.

Game 1: Brookhaven tops Dallas, 6-3:

The Bears jumped out to an early advantage with a run in the third inning, as Byron Brooks stole one of three bases on the day, and came around on a throwing error by the catcher for the navy and white.

Brookhaven would add onto its lead in the fifth inning, and a three-run sixth proved to be the difference.

Dallas rallied in the seventh as Rene Vargas Jr. singled to left center for an RBI. In the bottom of the eighth, the Crusaders trailed 5-1, but rallied cutting the deficit to a pair. Luciano Villanueva doubled to left field scoring Josh Angrisano and Avery Arnold advanced to third. The next batter, Trevor Keele, flied out to left and the sacrifice fly allowed Arnold to come in.

A ninth inning run for the visitors wrapped up the scoring in the first affair.

Vargas Jr. had a great game at the plate tallying three hits in every at bat. Anthony Armstrong also boasted a multi-hit contest with a two-for-three day at the dish.

Martin Cronin was saddled with the loss giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in 4.1 innings tossed. Jacob Bruns, Cole Morden, and Abraham Griesbauer all appeared on the bump for the Crusaders.

Game 2: Brookhaven defeats Crusaders, 5-2:

For the second time the road squad pushed an early advantage beginning with a two-run second inning. Dallas countered with its first scoring result in the third as Nolan Kipp singled to left and Zack Boylson advanced home after an error on the Bears' outfielder.

Brookhaven doubled the lead in their next frame thanks to a Phillip Russell triple down the right field line. Ryan Sloma crossed the plate on the three-bagger.

Once again the Crusaders nipped the margin to a single run in the sixth. Alex Stack hit a single to center field and Armstrong scored on the base knock.

Insurance runs were provided in the eighth and ninth for Brookhaven, and plenty to secure a doubleheader victory.

Dallas was outhit 11-9, with Kipp and Armstrong providing strong offensive showings with two-for-four and two-for-three displays, respectively. Villanueva, J.P. Fasone, Zach San Roman, Stack, and Boylson all recorded hits in the game.

Throwing four innings was Denton Martin, who allowed three runs on six hits. He also walked three, but did fan a quartet of opposing batters.

Eric Felchak, Jack Brunk, Will Marshall, Andrew Lightfoot, and Keele all logged an inning each on the mound.
