@UDallasBaseball unable to contain the Lobos Offense in Rubber Matchup

ALPINE, Texas – A quick charge out front for the University of Dallas baseball team was not enough, as Sul Ross State University claimed the lead for good and erupted for a 12-run sixth inning to prevail 14-7 on Sunday. After splitting the twinbill on Saturday, Sul Ross State clipped the deficit to 4-2 after five. SRSU broke double-digits all three games this weekend and the 17 in the series-finale was the highest amount over the slate.

Guadencio Lucca and senior Mark Carlson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) each had multiple hits for the Crusaders and combined of over half of the team's seven knocks. Carlson scored two runs and had one-of-three RBI from the team. His classmate Alex Thornton had one of the other runs-batted-in thanks to his first-inning triple that was the only extra base hit for his team. Sophomore Denton Martin (Denton, Texas) recorded the final RBI in that three-run first by being hit by a pitch.

The next four runs for Dallas did not have a batter charged an RBI. Carlson scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to expand UD to its largest lead of the game, 4-1. Unfortunately, the Lobos garnered 12 runs, 10 hits, and took advantage of four of their opposition's six errors in the games during a massive sixth inning that switched the tide of the affair.

Connor Griffith (4-5) poured a game-high four hits and tied a game-high three RBI with Turner Mattson (2-5). Johnny Campos scored three runs for a game-high, but SRSU pushed eight different players across home. This included hitters five through nine in the batting order, and the bottom trio being plated twice each.

Ryan Vaughan (1-0) earned the win in relief with two innings. He allowed a run on four hits. Junior Luciano Villanueva (San Antonio, Texas) fell to 0-1 with three runs on just as many hits being charged to him in that crucial frame. Freshman Evan Eubanks (West, Texas) tossed five innings of two-run ball in his first start of his collegiate career.
