Rene Vargas, Jr. heralded 2013 SCAC Baseball 'Co-Freshman of the Year'

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - University of Dallas freshman shortstop Rene Vargas, Jr. has been named by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as a 2013 SCAC Baseball Co-Freshman-of-the-Year.

Vargas, Jr. (San Antonio) was one of three shortstops tabbed to the 2013 All-SCAC Baseball First Team. The 5-foot-7 freshman finshed ranked as follows in the SCAC: six sacrifice hits (first), 18 walks (seventh), a .331 batting average (10th), 10 stolen bases (11th), a .418 on-base percentage (12th), 42 hits (13th) and 40 games (15th). Fielding wise, Vargas totalled 87 assists (fifth) and seven double plays (16th).
