Michael Schweiss pitching well for the Alexandria Beetles in 'summer league' play

IRVING, Texas - On the heels of a breakout 2011 season in which he finished third in all of NCAA Division III Baseball in registering a meniscule 1.03 ERA, University of Dallas 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher Michael Schweiss (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) -- a soon-to-be senior -- continues to hone his craft on the mound.

Schweiss has been pitching for the Northwood League's Alexandria Beetles (Alexandria, Minn.), who currenlty sit atop the North Division standings with a 12-5 record. Of note, the Beetles are in the 'second half' of their season after playing 35 games before the break.

Thus far, Schweiss boasts a 1-0 record and a 3.13 ERA in 18 appearances, with his win coming in early June against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers. Over the span of 37.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 28 batters faced, while allowing 34 hits and 11 walks.

In his most recent outing -- on the road versus the Willmar Stingers (8-9) -- Schweiss dished out five strikeouts over 3.1 innings of work, while facing 14 batters.
