Baseball triumphs in Florida, defeats Briarcliffe College (N.Y.) to take three of four games in "Sunshine State"

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dallas baseball team (13-4) is back to their winning ways, after knocking off Briarcliffe College (N.Y.), 8-7, in 9 innings on Wednesday morning, in the final day of "Spring Training" tournament play.

Sophomore designated hitter Adam Farris (Flower Mound, TX/Liberty Christian H.S.) put on a clinic at the plate for the Crusaders, going two for three, with three RBIs and a double. Like Farirs, senior shortstop David Rettinger (San Antonio, Texas/Central Catholic H.S.) had two runs and two hits to share the team lead in both categories. Farris and freshman second baseman Mark Carlson each had doubles.

Meanwhile, junior outfielder Devin Arnold (McKinney, Texas/McKinney H.S.) also helped Dallas get runs on the board, producing three RBIs, two of which came on a 5th inning single.  

Defensively, sophomore Trevor Allred (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.) amassed a team-high three assisted putouts. On the mound for Dallas, junior Mike Byers (Manassas, Va./Seton Home School) got the start and etched his name into the win column, after pitching five innings, in which he allowed four runs on eight hits.

Freshman left-handed relief pitcher Dylan Myers (Rosebud, Texas/Rosebud-Lott H.S.) also aided the Crusaders in the victorious effort, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing only two hits. Andrew Bossert (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood H.S.) made a brief appearance, allowing one run on a hit in two-thirds of an inning, while registering a strikeout. Michael Schweiss (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) was able to shut down Briarcliffe in the 9th inning for the save. He allowed only a single, out of four batters faced, while striking out two.

The Crusaders look to finish off their "Spring Break" games on a positive note, as Dallas travels to LeTourneau University, with the two schools going head to head on Saturday, Mar. 12, in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader (1x7; 1x9).
