Baseball rallies late, but falls just short of Rochester College (Mich.)

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dallas baseball team (12-4) fell on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1, to Rochester College (Mich.), in their third of four games played in the "Sunshine State" on the week.

The affair turned into a pitchers' duel, with only three runs crossing homeplate for the game's entirety. Prior to Dallas' 9th inning success at the plate, the Crusaders were held to two hits and no runs over the previous eight frames.

In the 9th, Dallas' offense mustered a run off two hits, including a two out run-producing triple from the bat of designated hitter Adam Farris (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian H.S.). Patient at the plate, Farris also had a walk on the afternoon. The extra-base hit was too little, too late, however.

On Dallas's ensuing at-bat, replacement left fielder Devin Arnold's (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian H.S.) deep drive got held up in the wind, and was snagged by the outfielder for the final out of the game.

tarting pitcher Phillip Carkhuff (Marietta, Ga./The Lovett School) allowed only one earned run and three hits in six and two-thirds innings of work for the Crusaders, which included eight strikeouts.  The final inning-and-a-third featured a clean four outs for Dallas' junior right-handed reliever Michael Schweiss (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.).

Next opponent:

In their last day at the Cocoa Expo Sports Complex, the Crusaders will battle Briarcliffe College (N.Y.), as Dallas looks to take three of four games in the 'spring training' tournament.
