Baseball dismisses Penn State-Greater Allegheny behind Schierhorn's complete game, now boasts five game winning streak

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dallas baseball team (12-3) continued their winning ways, early Monday afternoon, defeating Penn State-Greater Allegheny, 8-1, in their second game of the 'spring training' tournament. Dallas Baseball, with the victory, has pushed their winning streak to five games.

The Crusaders had twelve hits in the game. Freshman first baseman Andrew Bossert (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood H.S.) led the team with three hits, and also scored a run.

Dallas juniors Devin Arnold (McKinney, Texas/McKinney H.S.) and Brian Shelburne (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth H.S.) posted solid performances, as Arnold finished with two RBIs off two hits, while Shelburne turned in the same number of RBIs, but on three hits. Third baseman Trevor Allred (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage H.S.) scored two runs and contributed three hits, one of which proved the only double of the game.

Designated hitter Adam Farris (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian H.S.) scored the first run of the day for Dallas, which occurred in the 2nd inning. Farris was given first base after being hit by a pitch, then stole second, moved to third on a single by Allred, and eventually crossed home plate after freshman second baseman Mark Carlson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Home School) put the ball in play. Additionally, Farris had another hit, and run.

Defensively, the Crusaders used only one pitcher, sophomore Chris Schierhorn (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.), who allowed only seven hits and one run in a complete game -- 9 innings.

Dallas looks to their next opponent, Rochester College (Mich.), as the two clubs battle on Tuesday, March 8, in the Crusaders' third game of four in Cocoa Beach, Fla. -- first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 EST/2:30 CST at the Cocoa Beach Expo Complex.
