Baseball presses on, defeats Penn State-Brandywine in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dallas baseball team (11-3) extended their win streak to four games on Sunday afternoon, defeating Penn State-Brandywine, 8-3, in 9 innings to begin 'spring training' play at the Cocoa Beach Expo Complex.

At the plate, the Crusaders totaled nine hits in the game, with key at-bats from freshman first baseman/pitcher Andrew Bossert (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood H.S.), who nailed an RBI triple in the first inning to put Dallas on the scoreboard. Bossert finished the day with three RBIs on a hit and a walk.

Of note, James Kerin (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich H.S.) smashed a triple in the 6th inning, but was left stranded.

Designated hitter Adam Farris (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian H.S.) hit a homerun in the 9th inning, which helped spark a five run inning for the Crusaders, sealing the victory for Dallas.

Defensively, the Crusaders used four pitchers on the mound. Sophomore Andrew Laux (Keller, Texas/Keller H.S.) got the start for Dallas, accumulating five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. Freshman left-handed pitcher Dylan Myers (Rosebud, Texas/Rosebud-Lott H.S.) entered the game in relief of Laux, and netted the win, allowing three hits and a run in 2 2/3 innings. The Crusaders' staff -- which also saw Michael Schweiss (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) and Bossert pitch -- struckout 12 batters on the day, and gave up only three runs.

Dallas looks to continue their successful start to the 2011 season, as they take on Penn State-Greater Allegheny on Monday, March 7, in Cocoa Beach.
