Dallas Baseball Loses Series Finale

Dallas Baseball Loses Series Finale

Playing in Chicago, IL, the University of Dallas baseball tem lost to the University of Chicago 4-13 in a nine inning game. Defensively the Crusaders struggled again today. Their struggles were in large part centered on the mound. Faced with a problematic pitching staff that has been plagued with injuries all year long, head coach Frasier Holmes tried four different Crusaders on the mound; all of them struggled to against Chicago's batters.

Dallas fell behind early; Chicago scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning adding three more runs in both the third and the fifth innings. The Crusaders had a two run sixth inning, but it was much too little to late and they never came close to overcoming the Chicago lead.

Offensively the Crusaders only managed to get seven hits. Junior third basemen David Rettinger  (San Antonio, TX/Central H.S.) went 2 for 3, including a double and a run scored, while Brian Shelburne (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth H.S.), Nico Caluda (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit H.S.), and Trevor Allred  (Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.) all had RBI. Junior infielder Martin Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) and Caluda also doubled.

Next for the Dallas baseball team is a three game series against Austin College. On April 17 the series commences with two, seven inning games. The first game in Sherman, TX starts at 2:00pm.  The teams then travel to Irving to conclude the series with one, nine inning game on April 18 that also starts at 2:00pm.
