Matt Buchhorn becomes head coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field, as previous head coach Dore Madere heads to Student Life

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Buchhorn as the head coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field.

Buchhorn has assumed this opportunity from Dore Madere, who relinquishes her head-coaching duties after leading the Crusaders since the 2009-10 academic year. Madere has begun working in the Office of Student Life at the University of Dallas, and plans to assist Buchhorn and his teams when possible.

A native of Granger, Texas, Buchhorn's coaching-experience includes, most recently, serving in the roles of Assistant Cross Country/Track Coach/Graduate Assistant at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, since July 2011.

At Incarnate Word, he assisted the head coach in all functions of the program, such as coordinating travel arrangements, recruiting student-athletes, scheduling meets, maintaining equipment and aiding in the preparation of cross country meets.

Prior to his Incarnate Word appointment, Buchhorn was Assistant Cross Country/Track Coach at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, from July 2010-June 2011. Southwestern competes in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), a conference in which the University of Dallas is presently participating in for the first academic-year.

A December 2010 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, Buchhorn has earned a Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Sports, Fitness, and Leisure Studies. Working toward a Master of Science in Sports Management, he has completed postgraduate coursework at Incarnate Word.

While at Hardin-Simmons from August 2008-December 2010, Buchhorn was a member of the Cardinals' Cross Country & Track teams. He also ran Cross Country/Track/Half Marathon at Western Texas College from August 2006-May 2008 before receiving an associate degree.

In addition to holding USA Track & Field (USATF) Level I Certification, Buchhorn is First Aid and AED certified.
