Eight Crusaders Elected to SCAC 2020 Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its 12th annual spring All-Sportsmanship teams. A total of 72 student-athletes were selected to the 2020 squad in the sports of baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.

The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year and is asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2019-20 season.

Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the abbreviated 2020 season.

The University of Dallas placed eight spring student-athletes on the list, including four seniors. Kevin McGuirk (Front Royal, Va.) headlined the group with his third time receiving the honor (others in 2017, ’19) for men’s track and field. Other seniors garnering the good sportsmanship accolade were Nicolas Hovde (Waco, Texas) from baseball, Julie Duenas (Houston, Texas) from softball, and Mary Korth (McKinney, Texas) from women’s track and field.

Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) was the other Crusader to earn the all-sportsmanship honor multiple years for men’s golf, as the junior grabbed the honor consecutive springs.

Claire Kirby (Lubbock, Texas) picked up the first SCAC women’s golf spring all-sportsmanship team honor. The freshman had another classmate in Gabby Dixon (San Diego, Calif.) that received a selection for women’s lacrosse. She is the second Crusader to receive the honor for the program.

Austin Gibbons (St. Charles, Ill.) rounds out the list of Crusaders for men’s lacrosse. The sophomore is the second member of the program to earn the honor.

This was a dynamic group that performed well in multiple facets of their respective programs. McGuirk and Korth earned indoor school records this spring. Hovde was a SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week earlier in the semester. Dixon was a SCAC Player-of-the-Week. The trio of Duenas, Montalvo, and McGuirk earned 2019 team MVPs, and Gibbons was another top scorer for UD in his first two campaigns.
