5 Players Named on 2016 SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) today announced its ninth annual fall All-Sportsmanship teams. A total of 41 student-athletes were selected to the 2016 squad in the sports of men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.

The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year and is asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2016-17 season. Read the SCAC Presidents’ Council statement on Fan Sportsmanship.

Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.

Five members from the University of Dallas were listed, with representatives from men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and volleyball. Two members earned the accolade for the second straight season.

Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) headlines the quintet with his third time gaining the recognition. Holdridge earned mentions to the all-sportsmanship team his freshman year (’13) and junior year (’15). The senior finished tied on the team in goals with six and second in points with 14. Holdridge adds to his postseason awards, having earned the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National All-Academic Team.

Anna Fazio (Beaumont, Texas) is the other Crusader to notch a spot on the fall all-sportsmanship team for consecutive years. Fazio appeared in 69 sets through 28 matches. She made 7 service aces and 50 digs.

Representing cross country was a pair of team-voted MVPs in Thomas Hogan (St. Louis, Mo.) and Joey Danaher (Boulder, Colo.).

Hogan was the Crusaders’ top runner in his first season running with team-best scores in six-of-seven competitions. Hogan capped a successful year with a school record in the 8k at the USCAA Championship (26:24) and was an All-American with eighth place. Hogan also earned a spot on the All-SCAC Second Team with an 11th place finish at that championship.

Danaher was the lone senior on the squad for the women’s side. She was among the top three fastest times in every race this season. Her final competition of her career was a 6k in the USCAA Championship (25:55).

Rounding out the five Crusaders with the All-SCAC Sportsmanship Honors is women’s soccer’s Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.). The sophomore netted a goal and three assists for five points this season. She played and started all 19 games and her lone score was a game winner against McMurry University on September 5.
