Women's Track and Field SCAC Championship Preview

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas women's track and field team will be competing in the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship on April 28-29 hosted by Trinity University. This is the second time the Crusaders will be competing at San Antonio this season, as they participated in the Trinity Open back on February 25.

Head Coach Matthew Barber is in his third year at the helm for track and field. The UD Alumni is looking forward to his group finishing the year out on a positive note. In 2016, the men's side achieved a couple feats. Headlining last year's top moment for the Crusaders was Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.) getting All-SCAC Third Team in the 400 Meter Run. McIntyre qualified in the preliminaries in the 100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash, and 400m. She got third in day one of the 400m and sixth in the 200m.

This season on the SCAC Outdoor Performance List provided on Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), there are a couple new faces to keep an eye on. Leading the way is Diana Hassink (Tulsa, Okla.) in a trio of field events. The junior that is a volleyball dual sport athlete, has secured top eight spots in the Shot Put (2nd - 11.33m), Hammer (6th - 29.28m), and Discus (7th – 24.66m). Katie Spellmeyer (Chesterfield, Mo.) is one-of-two seniors on the team that has lettered all three seasons eligible coming into this spring. She is another thrower that will be in the Hammer and Javelin Throw.

McIntyre is the other athlete that has lettered three times, and she is registered in the 200m, 400m, and will be running the third leg in both relays. Her time of 1:02.89 in the 400m is eighth in TFRRS and was posted in the most recent competition two weeks ago at the McMurry Open.

Clare Basil (Arnold, Md.) has cracked the top 10 in the 800m among SCAC Performances with a 2:29.97 at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational. She is listed 7th.
