Hagemann Clinches 1,000-Point Mark in Victory over Centenary

IRVING, TEXAS – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (12-8, 5-5 SCAC) moved to .500 in conference play with a 91-50 victory over Centenary College (0-21, 0-11 SCAC) on Friday night. Dallas has won back-to-back games and allowed the fewest points against a league opponent this season.

The Lady Crusaders trailed in the opening possessions of this matchup, with Centenary beginning with the first five points on the scoreboard. UD responded with four in a row, and would tie the affair 7-all after sophomore Sammi Tso hit a trey about three minutes into the stanza.

From there, the Navy and White would continue its 18-0 surge and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the rest of regulation. The closest the Ladies would nip at the deficit would be a 29-19 margin on a jumper from Kelsey Burtrum with 7:09 until the break. Dallas carried a 47-33 lead into intermission.

Dallas kept at it, taking advantage of miscues from the visiting team, which committed 25 and helped count towards 33 of UD's points. The home squad outscored Centenary in the latter frame 44-17.

The Lady Crusaders shot 42 percent from the floor, and a season-best 60-percent from beyond the three-point arc. Dallas also pulled down a team-high, 51 rebounds, on the campaign and out-grabbed the Maroon and White's 33.

For the second contest in a row, UD would place 11 players in the scoring column. Notching an incredible feat tonight was senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) who managed a double-double with game-highs scoring and rebounding at 20 and 10, respectively. Her totals helped mark the forward as the 12th player in school history to surpass the 1,000-career mark. She eclipsed the total with a layup for the Lady Crusaders' final bucket with about two minutes to go. It also moved her to 1,001 overall tally in her four-year career.

Teammate Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) accomplished the feat a week ago at Southwestern University. Tso finished with 14 points, connecting a 80-percent shooting (4-of-5) from downtown, and dished out five assists. Sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) added 13 off the bench to round out the trio of double figure scorers. She chipped in a 3-for-4 effort from beyond the three-point arc.

Freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) grabbed eight rebounds, ranking her second on the squad, while sophomore Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) earned a seven rebounds off the bench and marked a career-best.

The Ladies from Centenary were led offensively by Jessica Bruti with 15 points, while Rebecca Thompson and Briana Edwards tossed in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Edwards led the team with eight boards, while Kayla Ruth and Thompson pulled down six each.

STAT OF THE NIGHT

Dallas received 24 second chance points and pulled down 25 offensive rebounds in the game. It was also another big night for the team boasting 21 assists, which is a team-high for that category.
