FIRST-TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team (11-8, 4-5 SCAC) returns to the Maher Athletic Center on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 for contests against Centenary College of Louisiana (0-20, 0-10 SCAC) and Colorado College (2-19, 2-8 SCAC), respectively. Both games are slated to begin at 6 p.m.

A look at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings reveals Dallas sitting in 5th place while Colorado College and Centenary College are ranked 7th and 8th in the league. UD will be hosting the conference tournament Feb. 27-March 1, and have earned an automatic bid.

The Lady Crusaders have gone 5-4 at home this season, but oddly have claimed just one victory; coming two weeks ago in a 63-60 final over Southwestern University.

MOST RECENT ACTION

After displaying an 0-2 result at Southwestern and Texas Lutheran University last weekend, Dallas ended a three-game streak on Tuesday in a triumph at Dallas Christian College. The Navy and White clinched an 81-67 decision after DCC rallied late in the second half to cut the deficit to nine with three and a half to go.

For the most part, the Lady Crusaders controlled this non-conference matchup as they built a 39-27 edge at intermission. UD would lead by as many as 27 in the early portion of the second stanza.

Five players etched double figures in scoring led by sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) with 13. Sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) chipped in 12, senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) added 11, and freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) and senior Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) rounded the quintet out with 10 each.

It was a team effort for UD in the win, who shot 40.9-percent from the floor, 35.3-percent behind the three-point line, and 72.4-percent from the free throw line. 11 players tallied points in the scoring column for the Navy and White.

IMPACT PLAYERS

Bustamante, who broke 1,000 points in her career last Friday at Southwestern, remains the leading scorer on the team with 12.4 points-per-game (ppg). On the campaign, the senior guard has logged 13 double-digit scoring performances, including the last five in a row.

During that stretch, Bustamante has averaged 18.4 ppg and 15.3 ppg versus SCAC opponents. She is also the team-leader with 40 steals and has grabbed 84 rebounds.

Hagemann is second on the team with 11.8 ppg and leads the team with 100 defensive rebounds contributing to her second-most 127 overall. The forward has totaled 12 double-digit scoring performances and is shooting 46 percent from the floor at home this year. She's averaging 12.9 ppg in league contests this season.

DeCoud continues to own the glass ranking first on the team with 149 and third in the SCAC with that amount to go along with 7.8 per game. The rookie also has boasted nice offensive numbers with 11.6 ppg and is fourth in the league shooting 50.5-percent from the field.

SCOUTING CENTENARY

The Ladies are searching for their first win of the year and went 0-1 against Dallas on the season-series this year. Centenary dropped both contests last weekend with Trinity University (100-33) and Schreiner University (66-50). The Maroon and White are 0-10 on the opposition's home floor this season.

Briana Edwards has been leading the Ladies with impressive numbers, with her first career 20-point-20-rebound occurring in the most recent setback against Schreiner. Edwards is averaging 12.5 ppg and garnering 10.3 boards a contest to slot her second in the conference. She also has blocked 45 shots to rank second-most in the SCAC, turning away 2.4 a game.

In the earlier contest at Shreveport, Louisiana, UD defeated the Ladies 77-60. The road squad carried a 35-19 halftime advantage and were able to force Centenary into 27 turnovers. The Navy and White were paced by Hagemann with 13 points, DeCoud with 11, and Bustamante with 10. Gendron chipped in nine off the bench, while sophomore Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.) added eight and dished four assists.

Edwards had a game-high 15 points, while Haley Deshautelle and Rebecca Thompson added 12 apiece.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Colorado College has dropped eight-straight, including a pair of setbacks at home against Schreiner (74-68) and Trinity (60-35). The Tigers are still looking for their first win on the road.

The Black and Gold are led by a trio of players with Danielle Davis posting 306 points and 14.6 ppg to earn the third spot for each category in the conference. Courtney Tyus is right behind at 13.0 to earn a spot in the top six. Malia Shappell rounds out the unit with 11.0 ppg.

As a team, CC is scoring 62.7 points a contest while allowing a 74.7 clip. Davis narrowly holds the team-high in rebounding with 130, just over Korbyn Ukasick by three.

Dallas prevailed in its lone overtime affair this campaign at Colorado Springs, Colorado, when the road team rallied down 12 points at intermission to force extra regulation. UD would outscore the Tigers 14-8 to tie its highest scoring output on the year in a 92-86 final.

DeCoud notched a personal best 27 points, which helped her lockup her first SCAC Player-of-the-Week honors, and was shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Hagemann added 24 points and with a team-best 16 made free throws. Stoia nabbed 11 rebounds to match a personal high from her rookie campaign last year.

Colorado College was led by Tyus with 25 points, while Ukasick tossed in 20. The quartet of double figure scoring performers were concluded with Katie Wirth and Danielle Davis adding 13 and 10, respectively. Notably all four players were in the starting lineup for the Tigers.

UP NEXT

Dallas will be on its final road trip of the year on Feb. 13-14 at Schreiner and Trinity. Tip-offs for the two conference matchups will be at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
