THE LEAD

The University of Dallas track and field team competes at Seguin, Texas, from April 22-23 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships. Dallas has enjoyed the past two weekends off, and will be looking build on a successful spring season so far. Texas Lutheran is the host site and is the second time the Crusaders are competing there. On March 5, Dallas participated in the TLU Bulldog Relays.

CRUSADER NOTES

(Men's Track/Field)

- Dallas has set a few records this season:

-- 4x100 Meter Relay (44.39 at the Baker Relays). Set by Dominic Del Curto (Oakdale, Calif.), Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas), Thomas Pierick (Des Moines, Iowa), and Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas).

-- 4x800 Meter Relay (8:23.36 at the Baker Relays). Set by Ryan McAnany (Kansas City, Kan.), Holdridge, Rafael Medina (Waco, Texas), and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas).

-- 4x1600 Meter Relay (20:30.08 at TLU Bulldog Relays). Set by Jack Grubner (Needham, Mass.), Gabriel Marasigan (Orange County, Calif.), Caine Mongeau (Little Elm, Texas), and Zach Zendt (Belton, Texas).

- Giadolor made his track debut at the 2016 War Hawk Classic. His first place time of 10.84 ranks first in Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) on the SCAC Outdoor Performance List.

- Giadolor is also ranked in the top five on the 200m after his 22.70 in the most recent outing at the Baker College Relays.

- Holdridge projects to compete in the 200m and ran a 2:02 minute in a split within the 4x800m last competition.

- Holdridge ran a 50.69 in the 400m at the War Hawk Classic. That slots him fourth in the SCAC Performance List.

- McAnany breaks into the 10 on the SCAC Performance list with fourth in the 1500m. The cross country team MVP ran a 4:08.74 in the Trinity Open to earn that spot. At the same meet, McAnany's 2:01.55 ranks seventh for the 800m.

- Grubner made his debut at the Baker College Relays in the 10,000m. His 36:40.64 placed him fifth in the SCAC Performance List.

- Paulo Salazar (Dallas, Texas) headlines the field events. He breaks the top 10 for sixth in the Shot Put. His best throw was last meet with a 11.27m.


(Women's Track/Field)

- A quartet of records for the Lady Crusaders:

-- Distance Medley Relay (13:39.06 at East Texas Prairie Dog Time Trials) by Emma Polefko (Cypress, Texas), Katie McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.), Clare Basil (Arnold, Md.), and Bridget Kennedy (San Antonio, Texas).

-- 800 Meter Sprint Medley (2:24.05 at TLU Bulldog Relays) by Rose Forget (St. Louis, Mo.), Maggie Dombrowski (Concord, Calif.), Allison Federer (St. Louis, Mo.), and Simone Loel (Phoenix, Ariz.).

-- 4x800 Meter Relay (10:35.22 at TLU Bulldog Relays) by Kennedy, Ruth Fritz (Boise, Idaho), Basil, and Caroline Schemel (Greencastle, Pa.).

-- 4x1600 Meter Relay (24:22.54 at TLU Bulldog Relays) by Schemel, Basil, Fritz, and Kennedy.

- McIntyre boasts a trio of top 10 ranks in the SCAC Performance List. Her best mark is fourth in the 200m (27.06) at the War Hawk Classic. At same competition, McIntyre rans a 13.26 in the 100m for seventh within conference. The junior slotted eighth in the 400m (1:01.97) at the Baker College Relays.

- Basil ranks ninth in the 800m with a 2:30.93 that was raced at the Trinity Open. Kennedy also checks in ninth in the 5000m with a 19:26.30 that was at same meet as her fellow classmate.

- Kennedy made her career debut in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Baker College Relays. Her time (13:06.65) ranks fifth in the SCAC Performance List.

- Fritz also had a season debut in the 10,000m with a 44:21.75 time.

- In the field, junior Katie Spellmeyer (Chesterfield, Mo.) set personal records in the Hammer (26.01m) and Javelin Throws (21.49m) at the last competition. The Hammer Throw distance ranks sixth in SCAC Performance List.

PARTICIPATING OPPONENTS

Five programs battle for the SCAC Championship this Friday and Saturday. Defending champions, Trinity University (both teams), enter with the majority of best times on TFFRS. Host school, Texas Lutheran University, and Colorado College also break into a few top spots. Southwestern University rounds out the four opponents.

Last season, on the men's side, Trinity prevailed with 269 points and 11 individual wins. Texas Lutheran was second with 191 points and Southwestern finished third with 68 points.

On the women's side, Trinity also secured the Title, edging 2014's winner Texas Lutheran. The Tigers scored 248 and TLU posted 235 as the teams flipped in the standings a year later. Colorado College notched third with 72 points.

The Dallas male track and field squad finished third in 2014 with 79 points. The Crusaders' best performance was 103.5 points in their SCAC Championship debut in 2013. That same season, the Dallas female track and field program earned second with 91 points.

This is the fourth conference championship for UD since joining the league.
